We left our campsite in Denton, MD and headed to Tilghman Island...a spot my dad really wanted us to see...where we could sit on the docks and watch the working fisherman bring in their catch. BUT...before we left Denton, we visited the post office and a local thrift store. Such a nice community. Dave loved visiting with the locals. Easton, MD was a quaint little town...a big artist community. We walked and looked, stopped at the local Goodwill and headed out to St. Michaels.
St. Michaels was BEAUTIFUL! Darling shops with unique names and storefronts lined the streets. We drove out to their Waterfront museum and walked around the boats and buildings.
Then on to Tilghman Island where we drove to the very end! Chesapeake on one side, the Choptock River on the other. Ate lunch on the deck at Harrison's (the same place my parents ate years ago...the server said it hasn't changed)...a little bed and breakfast/restaurant/fishing dock. Oyster Stew and Cream of Crab Soup. The weather is turning a little cooler so the soup was extra good! Unfortunately...no fisherman working today but the view was still fun!
Decided to head for the east coast...we really don't like driving into a campsite in the dark but thought we could make it....and we did! As we pulled into our campground on Assateague Island we both gasped when we saw the wild ponies grazing right near our van! We knew to expect it but it still takes your breath away when you see it! Pulled into our site...and ran up the hill to the beach so we could watch the sunset! GORGEOUS!
Met our neighbor on the way to the beach. Jeanne Pierre (sorry if I butchered the spelling Jeanne!). Jeanne is a French Canadian from Montreal traveling the US down the east coast to Key West. Inspired by the book "Travels with Charley" he drove out west last year and is working his way south this year. We loved seeing the inside of his Westfalia.
Dave had extra company on his midnight stroll to the bathhouse. A small fox followed him:) I would have been petrified...not my hubby...he said it was adorable and stayed about 6 feet behind him.
Opened the van door the next morning and there were two horses grazing in the campsite across the road! Hurried out, started the coffee and ran up the dune to catch the sunrise...SO WORTH IT! Amazing every time we see it...love how God can cause us to catch our breath with each one:)
Morning coffee on the beach:) Showerd and walk on the beach before we packed up and headed out...next stop Virginia Beach.
